We're seeking a Construction Commissioning Manager to lead the integrated commissioning of critical electrical and mechanical systems for high-performance data centers. This role is responsible for commissioning planning and execution across power distribution, backup power, controls, HVAC, chilled-water systems, liquid cooling infrastructure, and associated piping—from installation verification and pre-functional testing through startup, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and final handover. As the senior field leader for both disciplines, you will direct commissioning engineers, supervisors, technicians, vendors, and subcontractors; coordinate closely with construction, engineering, operations, and client stakeholders; and ensure all systems operate safely, reliably, and as an integrated whole. Success in this position requires strong technical knowledge of both electrical and mechanical infrastructure, disciplined issue resolution, and a consistent focus on safety, quality, schedule, and operational readiness.

Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end commissioning program for electrical and mechanical systems, including strategy, staffing, schedules, turnover sequencing, test readiness, execution, issue resolution, and final acceptance.
- Develop, review, and execute commissioning plans, procedures, scripts, checklists, and integrated testing schedules aligned with design intent, project milestones, operational requirements, and client expectations.
- Direct commissioning of electrical infrastructure, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, generators, ATS/STS equipment, busway, emergency power systems, protection and control systems, and redundant power paths.
- Direct commissioning of mechanical infrastructure, including HVAC equipment, chillers, chilled-water systems, pumps, piping, heat-rejection equipment, air-handling systems, liquid cooling systems, coolant distribution units, and associated controls.
- Plan and lead functional performance testing, load-bank testing, failover and redundancy testing, control-sequence validation, alarm verification, and integrated systems testing across electrical, mechanical, BMS, EPMS, and life-safety interfaces.
- Review electrical one-line diagrams, coordination studies, control schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment submittals, sequences of operation, specifications, and change-management plans to validate design intent and identify risk.
- Verify system installation, energization, startup, and testing against approved drawings, specifications, performance benchmarks, contractual requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
- Supervise commissioning managers, engineers, supervisors, technicians, vendors, and subcontractors; assign work, monitor performance, remove roadblocks, and reinforce consistent safety and quality expectations across both disciplines.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with construction leadership, design engineers, project controls, QA/QC, HSE, operations, utility representatives, vendors, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
- Establish and enforce safe energization and startup practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), method-of-procedure reviews, pre-task planning, change control, and stop-work authority.
- Lead commissioning walkdowns and readiness reviews; document deficiencies, prioritize system constraints, assign corrective actions, and drive issues to timely closure.
- Maintain accurate commissioning records, including test reports, issue and punch lists, turnover packages, redlines, as-built records, certificates, lessons learned, and final handover documentation.
- Provide ongoing QA/QC feedback, support risk-mitigation planning, and identify opportunities to improve system reliability, energy efficiency, maintainability, and commissioning execution.
- Support operator training and knowledge transfer covering normal operation, maintenance, alarm response, emergency procedures, and integrated system functionality.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant field experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in commissioning, construction management, or system startup, including at least 3 years supporting data center or other mission-critical facility projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading the commissioning of both electrical and mechanical infrastructure on complex, highly available facilities.
- Strong working knowledge of critical electrical systems, including switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, generators, transfer equipment, busway, emergency power, controls, protection systems, and redundant power architectures.
- Strong working knowledge of critical mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled-water systems, pumps, piping, heat rejection, plumbing, liquid cooling, and data center environmental controls.
- Experience with liquid cooling technologies used in high-performance computing environments, such as direct-to-chip cooling, coolant distribution units, or immersion cooling.
- Proficiency in interpreting electrical one-lines, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, control diagrams, sequences of operation, commissioning scripts, equipment submittals, and change-management plans.
- Knowledge of applicable commissioning, electrical, mechanical, safety, and quality standards and best practices, including NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, OSHA, and relevant mechanical codes and standards.
- Familiarity with commissioning platforms, BMS, EPMS, and project management tools such as Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership, communication, technical writing, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced field environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to safety, quality, documentation, schedule, and technical issue resolution.
- PMP, LEED AP, commissioning certification, or similar professional credentials are a plus.
Other important requirements:
- Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
- Must provide own steel-toed work boots; all other PPE will be supplied.
- Must be able to reliably commute to the work operations site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
- Must be comfortable working a rotational schedule, which includes day and night shifts as well as weekend work, based on project needs.
- Employees working night shifts will receive a 15% premium added to their hourly rate only for hours worked during night shifts.
